Delphian celebrates the release of the first of a
number of recordings with The Exon Singers, under
Matthew Owens.
Often heard on BBC Radios 3 and 4, The Exon
Singers is recognised as one of the UK’s leading
chamber choirs. Founded in 1966, it has become
renowned for its dynamic and expressive
performances of music from the Renaissance to the
present day.
Under the direction of Matthew Owens, newly-appointed
Master of the Music at Wells Cathedral,
the choir has also received recognition
through its commissioning of new works from some of
the UK's most exciting contemporary composers -
Richard Allain, Grayston Ives, Gabriel Jackson and
George Lloyd.
Realised for the first time here is a Vespers for the
Annunciation, bringing together Victoria’s works of
Marian devotion in a glorious and revelatory
celebration.
The 24-page booklet comprises all texts and
translations with an accompanying essay written by
the Edition’s publisher, Jon Dixon.
