Six Pianos (DCD34029)
|

The
culmination of a four-year association between the Choir of St
Mary’s Cathedral and British Composer Award winner Gabriel
Jackson, this disc presents nine world premiere recordings. Whether
gentle and meditative, brilliantly exuberant, or soaring in ecstatic
contemplation, Jackson’s vividly communicative music is
brought thrillingly to life by a choir at the peak of its powers.
The release of this disc coincides with the news that Jackson
has become an OUP house composer this year.
“Newly
appointed Master of Music at Wells Cathedral is a prodigiously
gifted choir trainer and elicits maximum commitment from his singers.
I confidently predict great things for the future.”

Gordon Ferries, baroque guitar
DCD34036
|
|
|
|
The Choir of St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh, records Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' Edinburgh Service (DCD34037) |
| |
|
|
|
Baroque guitarist Gordon Ferries visits the music of seventeenth-century Spain's fiery streets a time when the five course guitar produced a sense of abject horror in the morally inclined, citing associations with popular ballads, taverns, criminality, sensuality and in particular dancing. Ferries assumes the role with panache and breath-takingly virtuosic flair.
“Stylish and accessible baroque from anexponent whose star is in the ascendant.”
– Classical Guitar, March 2004
