In
the first of a series of recordings with Delphian Records, The Choir
of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, offers a sumptuous
programme of jewels from the English anthem tradition whose repertoire
spans five centuries.
The
beautiful surroundings of St George’s Chapel provide an acoustic
at once immediate and luxurious. Under Delphian artist Timothy Byram-Wigfield’s
luminous direction, the choir resounds with exhilarating energy,
simultaneously arresting and awe-inspiring.
The
Choir, enjoying a period of renewed energy under Byram-Wigfield,
looks forward to an exciting year whose busy schedule includes appearances
in Norway and throughout the United States, as well as its regular
royal-related duties.
The
Choir will be marking the fifth anniversary of 9/11 with a performance
in the British Memorial Garden, Hanover Square, New York. All proceeds
from its recording of ‘The Whirlwind’ (featured on the
disc) will be donated to the garden.

Brewer and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. The
cream of the NYCGB go on to form Laudibus, the country's
elite young chamber choir.
This
summer the NYCGB and Laudibus celebrate Giles Swayne's 60th
birthday with a disc of his choral music, also featuring Delphian
artist Michael Bonaventure (organ) and guest artist Stephen
Wallace (counter-tenor). September will also see the release
of Laudibus's Song of Songs disc, recorded earlier
this year.
Laudibus
is giving a performance of some of their Song of Songs repertoire
this Saturday evening, 10 June 2006 - click here

New to Delphian's roster this year is the choir of Gonville and
Caius College, Cambridge, under its director Dr Geoffrey Webber.
With more than twenty discs in the catalogue, the mixed choir of
Gonville and Caius already has an illustrious career on record.
Dr Webber's holistic approach to music-making, where research and
performance are part of a wholly integrated process, exemplifies the
collegiate tradition at its very finest. Delphian is pleased to
launch this exciting new collaboration with a series of recordings
of largely-unknown Restoration music in newly-prepared editions by
Dr Webber. The first release, to be recorded this summer, is of
large-scale anthems by William Turner (1651-1740) where the choir
will be joined by the sumptuous Yorkshire Baroque Soloists.
The choir's repertoire is as eclectic and wide-ranging as its
performances are scholarly and in addition to this major four-disc
series Delphian looks forward to developing other innovative
projects with what is unquestionably one of the finest mixed-voice
groups in the country.
